BLAST Inc was formed in July, 2003 when it became obvious there was a need for an organization to be directly responsible for the promotion and growth of disabled sports and leisure in the Flathead Valley that is actually run by administrators, fundraisers, athletes, educators, business owners, consumers and professionals with disabilities.

The economic connection between sports and business is established, and the intrinsic value of disabled sports has been demonstrated by the ongoing and growing success of the Paralympic Games, however, to date, this has not been utilized in the Flathead Valley.

While Special Olympics is represented, they are also feeling the pinch with programming as well as community involvement, fundraising and awareness.

And following that, there were no viable sponsorship opportunities for local businesses who wanted to be involved in the growth of disabled sports.

BLAST was formed to address those issues.

BLAST also promotes co-operation between local businesses and disabled sports and recreation programs by demonstrating the financial value of a consumer who happens to have a disability as well.

BLAST supports existing programs by providing consulting services, co-operative marketing programs, educational opportunities, event programming, equipment loans and cash grants.

BLAST is also dedicated to the development of leisure and recreation opportunities for those individuals with any type of disability through the development of a local, community based roster of program providers and the eventual building of a BLAST facility where we can provide as many services and activities as possible to the most people.

To this end, we have developed the BLAST BUCKS program, where BLAST Members receive discounts from Merchants who want their business, and BLAST Members then patronize those establishments both out of LOYALTY and to obtain the value of the discount.
